Sybil H Interview

Posted on April 22, 2014 by
Sybil Hayes, is not merely a Burlesque performer but an artist in so many respects of the word. I've seen short clips of her shows and this model has moves...she uses her dance/stage artistry and incorporates it into her modeling. Sybil Hayes, welcome to the Fetfan Community and thank you for your amazing contributions.

"One of the things I love in photographing Sybil, it's like she has this barely caged power seeping from every pore. She brings this intensity to everything she does and it instantly evokes this raw emotion in her captured images. —"
James Polk

Sybil: My name is Sybil Hayes...yes that is my real name. I am a Charlotte based model, fetish performer, and (crazy) personality. I still consider myself to be new to modeling and openly claim I have no idea what I'm doing hahaha. I am really just being me, all the different personalities of Sybil, and learning as much as I can from all the photographers and models I have been fortunate enough to meet in this life called art. I always had an interest in performing as long as I can remember, but was too shy growing up to actually be on stage, so I was always the stage manager hiding behind the scenes. Now, I can't get enough of the lights, music, feeding off the crowd...and of course my favorite...the costumes.

How do you get started in modeling?

Sybil: I had been in fitness about 4 years in 2011 when I did a shoot with someone I knew just for fun and to really look at the transformation I had made in what is really a short amount of time in bodybuilding. Just for me, no intention or even thought of "modeling". Last February one of my images had caught the eye of Matt Schmidt and he reached out. Several of his images had jumped out at me as well and so I gladly excepted his offer.
I immediately loved the creative process and the ideas and excitement haven't slowed down... and neither have I.

How did you discover Fetish modeling/genre?

Sybil: The fetish genre was really automatic for me really, I brought my wrist cuffs to my first shoot haha. I find comfort in fetish art...and life, despite how wild the normals of the world view it. The freedom definitely fuels my creativity and the majority of the world telling me its taboo pushes me to do more....natural born instigator I guess.

Favorite category and why?

Sybil: I can't say I have a favorite category or style. Every experience is still fresh and different for me....although I tend to be naked a lot! But in all seriousness, what I really want is to cause a reaction in people. One of the images I'm most proud of for this reason is my collaboration with Jeffery Scott (1910), titled A Sunday Afternoon Walk in the Yard. I have seen it shared many times with comments from "I am in awe of this image" to " NO kill it!!!" hahaha. If I can make people feel so strongly, I know I did my job that day.

Do you have any fetishes you have modeled or personally find interesting?

Sybil: Body paint for sure!! Body paint is a personal fetish of mine and I have had the pleasure of modeling paint in the past. But I have a hard time staying still I like it so much, true of a paint brush and air brush I have found. I'm starting to meet more photographers that are willing to shoot fetish now, not everyone will or even can do fetish right. I don't want it to look fake or have the fetishes portrayed inaccurately. So working with people truly into or at least truly interested in edgy fetish imagery is important. I have several photographers I am looking forward to working with this year to put out some great visual art. Until then everyone should just come see me perform live haha.

Nudes, fine art nudes, how do you feel about the concept and how do you prepare?

Sybil: I find nude art incredibly challenging personally. Hiding behind costumes, make up and hair...I've been doing that my whole life. But stripping it all down and seeing what I can do and if I can still feel beautiful without all of that has been a growing experience for me, I'm more comfortable in my own skin sense starting nude art. You can still create such a strong image..., pain, seduction, bliss...all in nude imagery if done right. I study concepts and poses a lot the night before a shoot, especially if it's a photographer I have never worked with before. Despite being in a show that is very sexually charged I have no interest in creating anything that looks like porn...at least to those that know the difference.

Who has inspired your work and who is your favorite artist and why?

Sybil: I'm not sure any one artist has actually inspired my work. I feel like I kind of tripped into this a bit late in life without much preparation. I'm lucky that many of the artist (not all) that I first came in contact with in this adventure are supportive and really do want to see another artist succeed in making awesome imagery. Through their support, advice, and work, I feel I have made my career my own. They all inspire me to be better every shoot.

I couldn't possibly think of a favorite artist! I have too many styles I identify with. I like lots of color, fabrics, lights, blood, gore, death all the way to a beautiful peaceful B & W nude. I can't put a cap on art or artist and say "yes this is it" , it evolves too quickly for that. So I will name a few that I just love.... as I stated before Jeffery Scott's image is definitely at the top of my list of favorites. Honestly when he first contacted me...I freaked!! I had loved his work for some time, even before modeling came into my life. I couldn't believe he had stopped to look at my work much less tell me he thought I would "make a splendid addition to my body of work". We had so much fun together I was at his house 4 hours talking and getting to know each other before we ever got started shooting. I will have another piece of his released this year that will be in his book, so keep an eye out for that as well. Michael Dunn is one of my favorite's in the nude genre, especially "nude in nature". I've never had a "why is that girl naked outside" moment when I look at his work. It's all just fits perfectly and I have learned much about nude art and this business from him. Also, they are both funny as hell!! I love to laugh and it helps my creative process more than just about anything. I don't think you should take yourself too seriously in this business....I mean, relax it's only art right Mike Newcomer and Justin Kates, I love them both, yet so different in their own work. I love becoming a creature of the night crawling out of Justin's imagination and I think Mike could put a grocery bag on my head and get a killer shot. Now models, one model and just awesome person I have been fortunate enough to watch, learn from and call a friend is Erica Mckinney (IncendraSoul). I'm a bit in love with her I think haha. Her range is amazing and I can't get enough of her and I'm so excited she is getting back into it....I'm waiting not so patiently.

What do you think is your strongest feature in modeling?

Sybil: Oh that's easy...my juicy rip lol. My physique, no one is built quite like me and many people don't even know they like muscle chicks until they meet/see me. I'm cast as a Dom in my shows, and have a running character as "Diva Satan" because of this look I have.... okay okay, and my over the top personality.

How would you best describe yourself in 3 words?

Sybil: Sybil fuckn Hayes Smile ....I didn't even change my name when I was married and unlike most people I work with I don't have a stage name because I don't know how to be anyone else... I can't describe me any other way...

At the end of the day what are you most proud of?

Sybil: I'm proud I'm representing women over 35 years of age and women in fitness as still being sexy and creative. I am not sure how long all of this will last for me but I'm going to enjoy this ride all the way to the end....and I don't go away easily btw Wink I'm going to first make myself proud and hopefully make the photographers, models, and friends that I have met and that have supported this adventure proud too.

Great interview with a truly great woman. I meant every word of the quote at the top of the article, Sybil is caged intensity! More than her over the top personality and Olympian physique, the thing that makes her the most attractive is her true devotion to her friends, and I feel extraordinarily ...
