Jin N Tonic Interview

"Jin N Tonic - Actor, Model, Badass!" Enough said!

Hi, my name is Jin and I am a full-time professional actor/model/badass originally from Boise, Idaho. I spent two years on the road until last fall when I officially moved to Los Angeles where I spend my time loving the SoCal sunshine, speaking my mind all over the interwebs, and getting myself in front of as many cameras as possible!

,

Can I just say "I'm an attention whore" and leave it at that? Modeling is one step of many on my artistic journey. Through the use of my body, make up, wardrobe, lighting, etc, I help to create an emotion in another person. Just looking at a photo of me someone might feel happy/inspired/hopeful/scared/tearful/intrigued/horny whatever! It's indescribable how awesome it is to know I have the talent to make anyone feel anything! It's a talent and a power that will prove very useful one day *evil laughter.*

How did you get started with modeling and how long have you been in the industry?

Being in front of the camera was something that I had secretly desired my whole life. It was so secret in fact that for a long time I completely forgot that it was there. I got out of high school and graduated college and was stuck; broke and waiting tables. Then one day I had an incredible photo shoot with a local photographer and I realized that the only person holding me back, was Me. Three years later I live in LA, I've traveled all over the country for photo shoots (and two cruises to Mexico!), I just officially made it to internationally published, and I have an incredible and supportive fan base that keeps growing every day.

Your choice of genre is out of the box and definitely not mainstream, how did you decide or discover this side of you as a model?

Jin N Tonic: Being unique has always been my incredible strength and my weakness. I can't count how many nights I've spent wishing I was taller, had greater hair, had a more exotic look, etc, in order to get booked for more opportunities. I'm incredibly diverse and have done photo shoots in most any genre you can think of, but after two years of showcasing that I can be anyone, I am excited to finally be focusing on just being ME. Discovering my own look and showcasing that means that I don't fit into one specific genre; it means making my own genre. And to be honest I'm 100% OK with that. I'd rather be unique and booked less often, than so boring you can't pick me out of a lineup no matter how many billboards I'm on.

I love that you have broken free from the boundaries of genre and have created your own...creatively speaking what would you call your genre?

Jin N Tonic: Defining a genre that I think fits my look is something that I often frustrate over. I was discussing it recently with a really good friend and he said to me that, 'if I had to name your genre, it'd be the Fuck You genre' so I'm gonna go with that. I like it! It's not mean, it's indifferent. Like, fuck you, I'm going to eat this daisy and look gorgeous doing it because I felt like it.

Throughout your modeling I'm sure you have been to many different places, which has been your favorite and what kind of project were you working on?

Jin N Tonic: My favorite trip so far would definitely be to NYC! Coming from Idaho I guess I'm technically a small town girl. The incredible energy of the entire city was amazing, and not only was I some place I never thought I'd be, I was there to be part of a New Year Eve lingerie fashion show for Hillary Flowers literally two blocks away from Times Square. In my mind I had always thought I was too short and curvy for such an opportunity, so after two years of hard work to find myself there was life changing (and I'm planning on a second modeling trip in NYC this May!).

Is there anyone who has inspired your work?

Jin N Tonic: I see TONS of artists every day that inspire my work! Apnea Suicide (now Apneatic) was the first alternative model I encountered back in high school and that really planted the seed in my mind that 'hey, if she can do it, why can't I?' I've been so lucky the last two years to make some incredible and talented friends in this industry who inspire me each and every time I get to see them. Pretty much everyone I follow on fb/ig/tumblr I consider to be incredible artists and watching their work grow and reading about their struggles too pushes me to work harder on my self every day.

,

When at a photoshoot, what do you love most about the experience and what do you find challenging as a model?

Jin N Tonic: My favorite thing at a photo shoot is when the photographer has to stop and look at a photo he just took because it's just so damn good. I never considered myself good at anything, so now that I have this talent that can cause a whole set to pause so that 'Hey everyone, come see how good I look!' is really incredible. I still don't believe that they are talking about me. I find all photo shoots to be challenging on both a mental and emotional level, but that's what I love about my work! I have to be completely aware of my entire body and also look and feel a certain way to portray the emotion that we are going for. When I get done with a shoot knowing I kicked some ass it's a great feeling - not many people get to say that about their jobs!

, , , ,

How would you best describe yourself using just 3 words?

Jin N Tonic: Actor. Model. Badass.

What's your favorite color?

Jin N Tonic: My favorite color has always been black. that's not, like, 'gothic' of me, it's just a classic and flattering look! I'm trying to add more color to my wardrobe, but any time I buy a pair of shoes or a dress or anything I always like it best in black.

What makes you laugh?

Jin N Tonic: People hurting themselves brings me such a redikuluss amount of joy. I'm so happy that nearly everything is video taped these days and that idiots will still post their youtube videos even though it went terribly wrong.

What's Jin N Tonic's favorite drink?

Jin N Tonic: I actually really, really DON'T like Gin. It's like drinking an aggressive Christmas tree! I love whiskey and dark, flavorful beers. My model choices though are vodka sodas, champagne, and red wine.

Opinion on having a drink while shooting? do you believe it helps loosen or you don't need it? I'm guessing the latter Smile

Jin N Tonic: Unless it's me and a friend fucking around and taking photos I typically don't drink during a shoot. I definitely don't need it to 'loosen up' and I often have to drive afterwards. I did have an assistant with me recently though for a nude shoot on a very chilly beach. I was drinking vodka in a sobe bottle to help warm me up!

Reality tv, yay or nay? opinion?

Jin N Tonic: I've had my weak moments and got sucked into a couple reality TV series for sure. Generally speaking though, I avoid all television. Every time I'm at a friend's or photographer's and witness what passes for 'entertainment' these days a little bit of my faith in humanity slips.
