Model Viridian Vixen Interview

Photographer Bad Kitty Bondage

Viridian Vixen: Setting the tone of this interview... I'm listening to Tom Waits, "Kiss Me" and smoking a little White Fire #5

Above all else, I'm an artist. I aim to make you feel. To make you think. To make you take a hard look at your soul...To make you question. Urge you not to settle for the mediocre. I want you to look at my photos, read the words chosen with them, and really experience it. Art, with a touch of glamour. I want you to feel like you were there in that moment.
I think the common misconception about what I do, is that I do it as a model. No, I simply consider myself an artist. Model just never seems to fit. I in fact don't consider myself a model at all. I create simply to express myself. While I am humbled that some would give me that title...I want to acknowledge the countless amazing models who call modeling a career and do a far better job than I. I appreciate the opportunity that fellow artists give me by allowing me to step in front of their camera and capture a few moments in time. I do this for the experience.

FETFAN: How did you get started with modeling and how long have you been in the industry?

Viridian Vixen: I first started working with other artists in front of the camera about 10 years ago. A friend of a friend was just starting out with photography and was looking for young women who wanted to create and help him learn. I'm still good friends with him today.

FETFAN: Your work is definitely unique, how did you decide or how did you discover this side of you as a model?

Viridian Vixen: I've always wanted to push the boundaries and go beyond what was expected of me. I have fond memories of growing up in my aunts art studio. I was encouraged to create and express myself as soon as I could pick up a crayon. It didn't matter what I wanted to do. I was taught that the world has infinite possibilities and that I only need to pursue my dreams. I can remember as early as 5 or 6 working on dance routines to songs I heard on MTV. Making little clothing for my dolls. Playing around with paint and glitter on canvases twice my size. I wouldn't exactly call any of it masterpieces, but it gave me the room to explore my imagination.
My aunt was also wonderful about taking me to art galleries and lectures at the museums when I was small. I can still remember her showing me old paintings and teaching me about the beauty of the human body. How unique each and every person many shapes and sizes and colors we come in. To appreciate the nude form, rather than being ashamed of it. I credit my aunt for many of my core beliefs today. She and her wife are lovingly celebrating over 45 years of partnership. I remember growing up being told to love and accept everyone, even if their religious or sexual preferences differ from my own. I love the tolerance and acceptance that I was taught as a small child. I feel this really shaped my artistic eye. I see beauty in even the smallest things.

Fast forward to my teen years: One day when I was 16, I saw an ad for a local belly dance studio. I'd been dancing and participating in local talent shows my entire childhood. School band, orchestra, color guard, ballet...I was one of those weird outsider kids who was always getting into some new adventure. I always wanted to try something new. When I saw belly dancing...I was hooked.
For a couple of years I began learning traditional american cabaret style belly dance. My boyfriend at the time thought to surprise me with tickets to a little belly dance show at a little historic performing arts theater.
What I didn't know at the time, was that this performance would inspire my decade long love of the strange, the slightly odd, the bizarre. It was a fantastical little show featuring tribal belly dance, gothic style dance, fire dancing. I remember seeing these lithe and pale creatures bending and swaying to hypnotic beats. The mystery...The danger of it all. I knew that I'd found the perfect outlet for my oddball view of the world. This led to my first tattoos at 19...the paisleys on my abdomen. This opened my world to various photographers, burlesque, tattooers, piercers, body painters, and other performance artists. Art and photography for me is a way to experience this world in a deeper way. A photo is my journal, my canvas, my book. Like a writer, it helps me tell the stories that play out in my head. Whether it be a romance, drama, or horror.

FETFAN: What is your favorite category to model and why?

Viridian Vixen: I don't think I have a favorite. I am alternative, so my work takes on the category of the other artist I'm creating with.

FETFAN: Do you have an hidden talents?

Viridian Vixen: Daddy calls me his little witchy witch Wink
I have this way of manifesting things that I want or need and being uncannily right about knowing the outcome of things. My friends lightheartedly tease me about this. I also have what we jokingly call Parking and Restaurant Karma. Seattle parking is god awful, but I seem to always get us amazing parking or a quick table at busy restaurants.

FETFAN: Do you ever get shy in front of the camera?

Viridian Vixen: Thankfully not

FETFAN: FETFAN Magazine is an alternative fine art nude magazine, but at the same time allowing artists to express themselves through their art. Fetishes are one of these forms. Do you have any fetishes that you have modeled or personally find interesting? I think most know me from my love of all things rope

Viridian Vixen: Nudes, fine art nudes, how do you feel about the concept and how do you prepare for this type of shoot?

Photographer DarkShibari

Viridian Vixen: I don't think I really prepare. I just show up and perform the character that is trying to escape from my imagination.

FETFAN: Throughout your modeling I'm sure you have been to many different places, which have been your favorite and what kind of project were you working on?

Viridian Vixen: Europe is unlike any other place for me. The food, the sites, the energy of the people and the old buildings. People enjoying and experiencing the pleasures of life. I can't wait to plan my next trip. We plan to visit again for a few weeks in March 2017!

FETFAN: Is there anyone who has inspired your work?

Viridian Vixen: Everyone I meet inspires me. Molds me. Every person I meet, helps me evolve into a greater version of myself as an artist.

FETFAN: When at a photoshoot, what do you love most about the experience and what do you find challenging as a model?

Viridian Vixen: I enjoy the connection of creating with another artist. There's nothing quite like taking 2 visions and merging them into something unique. I think the hardest for me is when I can't connect or read the photographer. When there isn't flow. The photos never come out quite as good. I love nothing more than shooting with someone who is chill and friendly and helps me loosen up. This doesn't happen, but I wish I could smoke out with all of my photographers and get to know them before the shoot. Sometimes the shoots are strictly professional, so I don't always get the opportunity to know the person as a friend. I'd like to, but its often times not possible.

FETFAN: How would you best describe yourself using just 3 words?

Viridian Vixen: Goober, Sweet, Multi-faceted

FETFAN: Five things you can't live without?

Viridian Vixen: My partner, my persian kitty, Bubby, Being petted, Oysters

FETFAN: Favorite movie?

Viridian Vixen: Fight Club or The Matrix. I think Fight Club comes in first though.

Photographer Bad Kitty Bondage

FETFAN: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Viridian Vixen: Oysters

FETFAN: What do you think your strongest feature is in modeling?

Viridian Vixen: My energy

FETFAN: At the end of the day when all is done what are you most proud of?

Viridian Vixen: My ability to live an authentic life and to speak my truths. My strength to never settle for easy or boring. To make life happen. To hold myself and those around me accountable and never stop learning and growing.

Photographer DarkShibari

FETFAN: If you would like to add a few words or anything else you would like to tell your fans please do so.

Viridian Vixen: I want to thank each and every one of you who has followed my work. Who has taken the time to contact me and give me words of kindness, encouragement, and support. I really am baffled by how quickly people started following my work, but I am so thankful for the countless amazing experiences it has allowed. So many wonderful souls have come into my life and I can't express how meaningful that is to me.

I want to encourage everyone to follow where their soul and imagination takes them. To never be limited by societal norms or trends. You are beautiful, inside and out. No matter your shape, size, gender, or beliefs. You are perfect and wonderful in your uniqueness.
